MIA combines elements of Howard Gardeners’ Multiple Intelligences and his base theory that everything can be taught in more than one way with time-tested teaching methods and a growth mindset.

With the knowledge that students think and learn in many different ways, MIA endeavors to approach early learning in ways that meet the needs of the range of learners in our classrooms while adhering to Washington State Early Learning Standards and Early Achievers Quality Standards

EARLY PRESCHOOL
A child’s first formal learning experience – preschool! Our preschool class is designed for the youngest learners, we focus on social/emotional skills such as learning how to follow basic instructions and communicate with our teachers and friends. We identify shapes and colors, work on our motor skills, and learn how to be a self-manager.

PRESCHOOL
The students in MIA’s preschool class will review and hone the skills taught in early preschool then expand their learning to include improving listening and speaking skills, forming good work habits, participating in music, art, science, and social studies activities, with focus on reading and math readiness.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN
Early learning programs are all about developing the skills to succeed in school, our Pre-K curriculum meets students where they are on their journey to reading, writing, and math with the ultimate goal of Kindergarten readiness. We continue to nurture our students’ development of self- reliance, practical, and social-emotional skills.

LEARNING CENTERS
One of the most favorite spaces in the school! Our multiple intelligence learning centers are for open exploration, hands-on projects, and imaginary play with friends.

PLAYGROUND
Spending time outdoors happens daily at MIA. Unless the weather is extreme, we head outside every morning and afternoon for recess (and sometimes for lessons or snacks!). The playground is also where we have our PE classes.
